Southport to lose Manchester Airport link but gain Leeds and Blackburn train
A draft proposal by Northern Rail will see Southport lose its direct links to Manchester Airport but instead gain a diesel run train to Leeds and Blackburn as compensation.
Arriva Rail North (Northern) has this week issued detailed timetables for the services it proposes to offer from May 2018.
However if they are passed it will be bad news for commuters who travel between Southport and Manchester Airport, with prospective timetables scrapping a direct service.
A weekday (Monday – Saturday) only commuter service will however run from Southport, through Wigan and Bolton on to Piccadilly.
