Southport sink hole has its own TikTok account

16th August 2023

A huge hole in the road surface of Shellfield Road is growing so much it now has its own social media accounts.

The hole, which still hasn’t been fixed despite it first being discovered more than two months ago, has been marked as dangerous.

However furious residents have now taken to regularly filming the state of the hole and posting videos to TikTok in a bid to pressure the council into fixing it.

Councillors and local residents alike are growing frustrated at the time taken to fix the sinkhole on Shellfield Road.

The hole first opened up in early June and were quickly reported to the Council. Local residents even dressed a rubbish bin in a hi-vis vest to warn drivers before the hole was cordoned off properly.

Yet, despite the hole being investigated and paint markings being added to the edges, showing that work is due to happen, the hole remains. Some residents have become so concerned about a potential accident that they have resorted to informing the police. However, sinkholes fall outside of their remit.

Taking on residents’ fears, Cllr. John Dodd has now asked Sefton Council to get on and finish the job.

Liberal Democrat Councillor John Dodd said, The sinkhole was assessed quickly which was pleasing but it seems to haven been forgotten about. We’re lucky there hasn’t been an accident and residents are right to be angry.”

“It’s a simple request for the Council – crack on and get the job done.”
