SOUTHPORT FC are delighted to confirm that following impressive pre-season outings for the club, Jack Doyle and Russell Benjamin have put to pen to paper with one-year contracts.
Russ has of course been with the club previously, making 23 league starts and 29 as substitute between August 2011 and April 2013. The midfield player left Southport to join AFC Telford United, also playing for Stockport County.
He has rejoined the club and manager Liam Watson said: “Russ is a player I’ve had previously and a player I think a lot of. Someone as a person, I know what I’m going to get from him on the pitch and all over in the dressing room. He will be pushing hard for his place and go on to have another good spell at Southport.”
Jack has featured in all our pre-season matches having been released from Blackburn Rovers. He has impressed everyone with his no-nonsense style and will be challenging to make the left back berth his own in the 2019-20 season.
Liam has been hoping to get Jack signed up as soon as his contract at Blackburn ended and added:” Jack is a player we have been chasing all summer. He has had a few options but has chosen to sign for us which I am delighted about.
“We tracked him last year when he was coming back from injury and I feel going forward he will be very beneficial for the football club and beneficial for Jack as he looks to get back up the levels.”
Welcome to Southport!
