More than a hundred children could go without toys and gifts this Christmas, a Southport charity is warning
The Salvation Army in Southport say they are concerned that at least 130 children in need will miss out on getting a present under their Christmas tree next Saturday, as the charity says it only has enough donations to help just twenty kids.
They are now appealing to good-natured and kind-hearted Southport residents as a matter of urgency, with expectant parents collecting gifts this coming Monday.
Unless people unite in the Christmas spirit in the next 72 hours, more than a hundred children will be left without presents.
A spokesperson for the Salvation Army said “Thank you to all who have generously donated in to our Christmas Present Appeal.”
“We have a plea however. Could you help us by buying a gift for a child (boys and girls) aged 9-12 years.
“We have in excess of 150 children to provide gifts for and only enough items to provide for about 20 children.
“The families are coming to collect their parcel on Monday.”
Gifts can be dropped at the Salvation Army on Shakespeare Street between 11am and 3pm each day. The Salvation Army asks that any donated gifts are unwrapped.
