Southport Rugby Football Club have announced the passing of club President Graham Ellis.
A statement on the club’s website read: “Graham passed on the afternoon of the 29th of June 2020 after a prolonged period of illness.
“We will remember Graham as the Gentleman of Southport Rugby Club who has been at the forefront of club success for a number of years.
“Our thoughts and all of our love go out to wife Anne and his three children Jack, Megan and Hugh.”
Graham was well known around the town for his love of the club and acted as the club’s historian and archivist for many years.
Despite receiving news of a severe health issue, Graham was determined in his final months to raise money for the Southport and Ormskirk Hospital Charity. #TheEllisExpedition asked residents to donate to the charity while club members walked, ran, cycled the 16,000km equivalent distance from Southport to the South Pole.
RIP Graham.
