SOUTHPORT residents targeted by scammers again

28th June 2018

Southport residents are being urged to be on their guard against a new telephone scam involving imposters claiming to be from Citizens Advice Sefton.

The scammers offer bogus debt management plans, known as Individual Voluntary Arrange- ment (IVA) in a bid to get victims to part with their money, but genuine Sefton Citizens Advice staff say they would never call people out of the blue offering such plans.

They are urging anyone who does receive such a call or text, to alert Action Fraud immediately on 0300 123 2040, or online at actionfraud.org.uk/reportfraud.

John Trotter from Sefton Citizens Advice told OTS News: “Recently a call was made from a mobile number to one of our money advisors on her own mobile phone while she was at work. As soon as it was clear that this was a scam call, the conver- sation was put on loud speaker for all colleagues to listen in.”
