Southport residents invited to alcohol awareness event
Residents are being invited to find out more about the dangers of alcohol and the importance of sensible drinking at a special event early in the New Year.
With the festive season out of the way, the Alcohol Awareness Day will be held at Seaforth’s Bowersdale Resource Centre on Crescent Road from 10am-4pm on Tuesday 3rd January.
The event is being organised by the Sefton Adult Mental Health And Wellbeing Consortium (SAMHAWC), a partnership of eight health and wellbeing organisations in the borough supported by South Sefton and Southport and Formby Clinical Commissioning Groups.
SAMHAWC Co-ordinator Jan Campbell says the event has been organised to tie in with the national Dry January campaign, organised by charity Alcohol Concern, which encourages people to give up drinking for the month.
The Alcohol Awareness Day will feature a guest speaker from Ambition Sefton, a service for local residents with alcohol and drug problems run by Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.
There will also be a drop-in room where SAMHAWC representatives will be able to provide a wide range of resources and also signpost participants to sources of support.
Jan Campbell commented: “We want to encourage residents to make a new start for the New Year so we’re hoping for a very good turnout at our Alcohol Awareness Day.
“Whether people simply want some tips on the best ways of cutting back a little on their drinking, or if they’re actually worried that alcohol is becoming a problem in their lives, this event is for them.”
SAMHAWC has been running a number of recent promotional campaigns around issues including mental health, stress awareness and suicide prevention.
The eight partners in the consortium are Sefton CVS, Venus, the Swan Centre, Parenting 2000, Netherton Feelgood Factory, Expect, Compass Counselling and Age Concern Liverpool and Sefton.
