Southport residents invited to summer Garden Party
Southport residents are being invited to a summer garden party with a free picnic lunch later this month.
The event is being held at Southport Community Centre on Norwood Road from 12 noon to 3pm on Wednesday 16th August.
The garden party – organised by Sefton CVS, the Brighter Living Partnership and the High Park Project – will celebrate the creation of a stunning new mural on the wall of the centre’s community garden.
This was chosen by local residents from a range of possible designs produced by A-level students at King George V College.
Both the mural and the garden party have been made possible by a grant from the National Lottery’s Celebrate programme, which aims to bring people together to celebrate what makes their local community special.
The garden party will also feature giant garden games, a ‘smoothie bike’, face painting, music and other attractions. Party goers can also bring an old wellington boot if they have one which can be planted with flowers in the centre’s “Welly Garden’.
Southport Community Centre Manager, Philip Blocksidge, commented: “This event is designed to be fun for all the family, as well as a great opportunity for local people to see our new mural which is now in place.
“Thanks to funding from the National Lottery, we’ve been able to create a really eye-catching new feature for the centre, and also organise this event to celebrate its launch with local residents.
“We’re hoping for fine weather and a very good turnout on the day, with a free picnic lunch being provided for everyone who comes along – people just need to bring their own picnic blanket if they have one or chill out on one of our party beanbags,” added Mr Blocksidge.
Southport Community Centre is located near to the junction of Norwood Road and Sussex Road/Peel Street. For more information about the event ring 01704 517810.
