An Ainsdale petrol station took the eye watering crown of the highest cost for fuel this morning.
Shell Garage on Liverpool Road is charging an extortionate 205.9p per litre for diesel, while its unleaded pumps stopped just short of 190p a litre.
The lowest price this morning as of 7.30am was found at Esso Albert Road, off Lord Street, which was reported to be charging customers 182p a litre for petrol.
The cost of filling up a typical family car is now greater than £100 on average across the British Isles. Price rises have forced motorists to consider if and when they can afford to fill up their vehicles.
To investigate whether the measure is being adhered to, business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has asked the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to begin an investigation.
