Special hand-made gloves for dementia patients in Southport have become a handy idea in Australia after the scheme reached the other side of the world!
Known as ‘twiddlemuffs,’ they are created by Healthwatch Sefton, and have items such as buttons, ribbons or textured fabric attached to keep dementia patients who may become agit- ated busy with their hands.
Jan Seery, who lives in Queensland, Australia, contacted Healthwatch Sefton about the twiddlemuffs after she found out about them on its website.
Jan said: “I have been looking for hand muffs for my 96 year old mother but I haven’t been having much luck.
“The I came across the Healthwatch Sefton web- site and thought I would write and ask if it would be possible to obtain a twiddlemuff for my mum.
“She does have Alzheimer’s but that was not the reason that I was looking for muffs for her.”
