My weekly article on my activities in Parliament.
This week the Government reached an important milestone in the Brexit negotiations. The draft proposal for Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union has been agreed by the Prime Minister. The complex legislative agreement reads over 500 pages. Before I can render a judgment on it, I will read this document thoroughly.
Away from Brexit matters, I met with the Tunisian Ambassador to the UK, HE Nabil Bed Khedher, to discuss the success of the delegation that I led to Tunis last week during November recess. The delegation was the first to Tunisia since the terrorist attack in Sousse in 2015. I was joined with my colleagues from the Tunisia APPG to meet with Tunisia officials and further UK-Tunisian relations.
The Government is clamping down on tax evasion. I met with the Financial Secretary to the Treasury to discuss measures set out in the Finance Act 2017.
I also attended my usual meetings with the Petitions and Science & Technology Committees.
This week was special because it marked 100 years since women gained the right to vote. This year’s UK Parliament Week was celebrated by many community groups in Southport. This week is all about learning about the importance of Parliament in our democracy and our communities.
Thank you as ever for your interest.
