Southport MP backs important new report on ARTHRITIS care
Thousands of Southport residents suffer with some form of arthritis. MP Damien Moore joined some of those who live with the condition after the launch of a new report by Arthritis Research UK.
Damien said: ‘Over 5000 of our town’s residents live with osteoarthritis of the hip; over 8000 with osteoarthritis of the knee – and over 17,000 with back pain.
‘I wanted to show my support for them and hear about the help that makes a difference to their lives.’
The new report looks at the provision of aids and adaptations for people with arthritis, which include grab rails, raised toilet seats, and non-slip shower mats. Research suggests these help sufferers lead more independent lives – and may reduce the risk of more expensive formal care.
Damien added: ‘Aids and adaptations in the home can help people to remain independent for longer, and I want to make sure that people with arthritis in our town know about the support on offer. I urge people to reach out to Arthritis Research UK for expert information, help and advice.’
