Southport model engineering club international model locomotive efficiency competition (7th,8th and 9th July)
Southport model engineering club will this weekend (7th,8th and 9th July) be hosting the international model locomotive efficiency competition known as “IMLEC”.
This event is a test of driving skill and the locomotive.
The competitors each get 30 minutes to run around the track trying to use as little coal as possible whilst trying to achieve a high “work done” figure.
These figures including the distance travelled are put into a formula to create an efficiency figure. The highest figure wins the prestigious “Martin Evans challenge trophy”.
The event is held at the clubs track site, situated in Victoria park at the southern end. The competition runs over the 3 days, starting at 12noon Friday and 8:30 Saturday and 8:30 Sunday.
The club is usually open to give rides to the public on Sunday afternoon, situated opposite the children’s play area, this makes a good Sunday afternoons entertainment for young and old kids. The locomotives are scale replicas of the full size and use coal and water just like their big sisters.
Southern end of Victoria park, rotten row, southport. Train rides on Sunday’s 11:00am – 4:00pm, weather and members permitting. Kids park adjacent.
