Commuters in Southport will wait a little longer to ride on the brand new Merseyrail trains after it was revealed they’ll be put into operation from next week.
A deal has been agreed to finally launch the new trains, first bought in 2016, on the Kirkby line from Monday.
The new Class 777 trains are due to replace the existing Merseyrail fleet of 507 trains, with a deal to purchase the new vehicles signed back in 2016.
Their grand unveiling been held up by a number of factors including the pandemic and repeated industrial disputes.
The new trains are hoped to appear on the Southport line in the coming weeks, with many passengers so far being left taunted by the sight of one new train sitting unused in Southport station for the last five months.
