Yet again Southport has missed out on a slice of a £1billion fund which aims to improve Britain’s high streets.
Earlier this week, the government revealed 50 additional towns to benefit from the Future High Streets Fund, joining another budget and Sefton Council chiefs put forward Southport and Crosby to ‘build on the Council ’s ambitions’.
Speaking at the time of submit ting the bids, Cllr Marion Atkinson, revealed that if successful, the funds would have been spent in Southport by ‘building on Sefton’s success in securing around £10mof Heritage Lottery and Coastal Communities Funding for King’s Gardens, Southport Pier and the recently announced Townscape Heritage Scheme’.
