Merseyside Police have today, Thursday 18th July, welcomed the sentencing of a 41 year-old man for burglary.
Marcus Darroue-Williams, of Churchill Avenue, Southport, pleaded guilty to a burglary at a house in Birkdale in June in which a large quantity of jewellery was stolen.
He was sentenced to three years in prison when he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court.
Detective Inspector Steve Ball said: “This is a fantastic result which came on the back of impressive investigative work by officers including one of our PCSO’s who was able to trace the stolen jewellery to a shop in Southport where Darroue-Williams had sold it following the burglary.
“Burglaries can have a lasting impact on home owners who have every right to feel safe and protected in their own properties.
“Operation Castle was launched in March last year aimed at reducing the number of burglary offences, raising community confidence, reassuring residents and victims, and reducing the number of outstanding named suspects for burglary.
“Merseyside Police is also committed to finding the people who are responsible for committing offences such as these and bringing them to justice and I would ask anyone who has any information about burglary offences in their area to contact us.
“I would also continue to ask the public to be vigilant as we know the vast majority of burglaries are preventable as they are often opportunistic. Lock your front and back door even when you are in, set your burglar alarm when you go out or go to bed and consider getting CCTV.
“It’s also a good idea to use light timers when you go out at night or away on holiday, keep valuables out of sight, and secure your shed and garage too. Look out for your neighbours, especially the elderly and report anything suspicious to us.”
