A Lord Street smoker is left with bill for £75 – after his cigarette missed the cigarette bin and finished on the floor.
A man fined for dropping a cigarette butt found himself with an unlikely ally after a drunk men set about chastising the civil enforcement officer.
A down on his luck Southport man has been given an on the spot fine after being caught dropping a cigarette.
An enforcement officer caught the man outside the former Taylor May’s hair studio on Lord Street this afternoon and issued an immediate fine.
The man was joined in his defence by a clearly aggravated fellow man who began shouting at the officer and witnesses describe hearing raised and angry voices as he argued with the enforcement officers to try and get the fine overturned.
Sefton Council signed a contract to employ additional enforcement officers to patrol Southport’s streets in June 2016, ordering them to issue fixed penalty notices to anyone caught dropping litter in Southport.
The authority appointed NSL Ltd to undertake the work.

They can be seen wearing Blue jackets and are also be equipped with body cameras to record their contact with offenders.
They have been issuing fixed penalty notices of £75 for littering and dog fouling offences. This will be reduced to £50 if paid within 10 days.
Offenders who fail to pay will be will be prosecuted.
