Southport Lifeboat rescue boat bound for France

Southport Lifeboat tasked by Holyhead Coastguard to help a sailing boat aground on Formby Beach.

The vessel had been on passage from Fleetwood to France when it ran aground at Formby.

The Lifeboat launched at 16:15 and met with the boats owner and Southport Coastguard who were with vessel.

A crew member from Southport Lifeboat went aboard the casualty vessel which was taken under tow into the River Mersey towards Liverpool Marina.

@rnli_newbrighton Lifeboat launched to meet the Southport Lifeboat in the Mersey and took over the tow for the rest of the journey.

The Southport Lifeboat recovered at 18:15 and was washed down ready for service again.
