Southport Lifeboat Crew attend opening of the new Formby Wetherspoons, The Lifeboat
The Southport Lifeboat has been chosen as one of the charities to be supported by the new Wetherspoons pub in Formby, ‘The Lifeboat.’
The crew were invited to attend the opening evening, raising awareness of the charity and the work it does in the local community.
Nick Porter, a Coxswain of the Southport Lifeboat said: “We’re all volunteers, we help rescue lives at sea but we also have a beach and land rescue team for doing the coast, sand dunes, marshes and pine woods.”
Independent of the RNLI, the Trust relies on donations and fundraising to provide a first class life saving service for the local area.
“All the money is raised in and spent on saving lives in the local area. We’re called Southport Lifeboat but we cover more than that – that’s just where our base is.
“We cover from Preston Docks down to the Pierhead and 25 miles out to sea, and everywhere in between.”
It costs around £60,000 per year just to keep the charity operational, so support from the local community is vital.
The RNLI are one of the other charities benefiting from the new Wetherspoons, the Southport Lifeboat crew are pictured with Helen of the Southport Fundraising branch of the RNLI.
