Southport Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate attends ‘People’s Vote March’
Southport’s Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate John Wright was in London at the weekend to take in part in the ‘People’s Vote March’, a demonstration to demand that the final Brexit deal negotiated by the government is put to a referendum of the British people.
“The way we voted in the 2016 referendum was based on what we were told by the various campaigns about what Brexit would deliver”, said Mr Wright. “What we are seeing now is very different to what we were promised, and that is why our cross-party group is demanding that, once we finally know all the details, the British people should be given the final decision. It shouldn’t be left to a stitch-up by the politicians, who care more about their own and their party’s interests than they do about what’s best for Britain”.
Estimates from the Metropolitan Police suggest that up to half a million people attended the march, which was addressed by leading figures from all the political parties. However Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn have both said that they do not back the idea of a final ‘People’s Vote’.
