Southport Ladies see out 2018 in style

3rd December 2018
Week 11 of the Southport Hockey season sees yet again another week with plenty of goals scored and few conceded, all in Southport’s favour.

Rachael Utterson’s Ladies 1st XI travelled away to Clitheroe and Blackburn Northern Ladies. In recent weeks the girls have gone from strength to strength.
This was evident once again as the score finished 10-0 to the greens. Goals from H. Markland (5), H. Williams (2), L. Atwell, R. Hughes and R. Utterson. The girls go into the xmas break 2nd place, just behind Lytham St Annes having scored 49 goals in 10 games.
Ladies 2nd XI game was unfortunately called off due to lack of players.

Mens 1s travelled away to play Rochdale for the second time this season. Player/Coach Connor Jameson had set the target of beating the last games result which ended 7-4 to Southport. Swift counter attacks and ruthless short corners saw Simon Helms team go into the break 6-1 up. After an experimental second half the game finished 7-1. The Seasiders showed great discipline, control and composure despite a chaotic second half. Goals from M. Grindrod, G. Caton, C. Jameson (3) and a man of the match performance from J. Caton (2).
George Finegans 2nd XI played the only home game of the week, hosting Windermere 2nds. Another 4-3 scoreline in Southport’s favour now cements the 2nd XI to the top of the table with a 3 point gap. Complimentary comments from the oppositions coach speak volume to the progression that the mens section have shown in such a short space of time.
The Beavers this week played out yet another win, this time against Alderley Edge. 6-0 winners. A great game played in a good sporting manor, the juniors of Southport following in the footsteps of the senior teams by going strength to strength each week.

Next week sees both the Mens 1st XI and Mens 2nd XI play their final game of 2018 against Ormskirk at home. All support welcomed.
