Instead of investing in Southport and Lord Street, Labour led Sefton Council decided to purchase the Bootle Strand shopping centre for £32.5m.
Southport MP Damien Moore said: “I was left with little choice but to go straight to the Chancellor to ensure Southport received local investment.
Subsequently, a £675m High Street Fund has now been established for towns like Southport to receive the investment they truly deserve.
On Friday, I met with the Chief Executive of Sefton Council to ensure an application was submitted without delay.”
