The son of the last Labour candidate to do well in Southport before Liz Savage has been suspended from his job as a key Corbyn aide.
David Prescott, (second right above) the son of former Deputy Labour Leader Lord John Prescott, who came second in the 1966 General Election in Southport, is now being investigated by the Labour leader’s office. His suspension comes amid widespread allegations of personal and sexual misconduct at Westminster.
John Prescott was known as ‘Southport John’ when he first turned up in Hull.
The suspension is mysterious, however, as apparently no formal complaint has been made to the Labour Party, which is refusing to provide journalists with any reason for the suspension.
The BBC has only been told that Prescott’s suspension relates to his “employment” after allegations were received by Mr Corbyn’s office.
But the nature of the claims have not been disclosed. A Labour Party spokesperson would only say:
“We do not comment on staffing matters.”
Former BBC TV producer David Prescott joined Jeremy Corbyn’s office over a year ago, initially as a speechwriter before being moved to be ‘communications manager’ for the shadow cabinet.
He stood as Labour’s candidate in Gainsborough in the 2015 election, losing to Conservative’s Sir Edward Leigh and he then failed to get the Labour nomination to become MP for Hull West.
After losing in Southport, former marine bar steward and trades union activist John Prescott moved to Hull East where he survived for 40 years as MP, rising to be Deputy Prime Minister to Tony Blair.
