Battle of the musicians
Young musicians across Southport and beyond are busy practising, hoping to be crowned this year’s Southport Young Musician of the Year.
Thirty five youngsters, aged between eight and 18, will be battling it out for the prestigious title – organised by Trinity Arts and sponsored by Whittakers Schoolwear – from 11-13 July.
Bob Ball, Trinity Arts Secretary, said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be organising this competition, now in its fourth year, which has become a must for young musicians. Our current champion Angelina Dorlin-Barlow has gone on to win more awards and has a glittering future ahead of her – and we’re so delighted she’s coming back this year as one of our judges.”
Categories include voice, brass, strings, woodwind, percussion, and piano.
Heats take place on Wednesday 11 July and then on Friday 13 July 14 finalists will compete in front of the public for the title, trophy and £100 prize money. This is the first year the final will be open to the general public. It starts at 6.30pm at Holy Trinity Church, Hoghton Street, and tickets are £3, available on the door.
