Southport hospital continues to have 3 wards affected with Norovirus, the virus that causes diarrhoea and vomiting.
It is evident that Norovirus continues to circulate in the community which is why the hospital is having patients with symptoms, hence we would ask that:
• If you have symptoms, or have recently had symptoms please don’t visit patients
• If you come to visit your loved ones and the ward is affected then postpone your visit until the area has been reopened – arrange with the ward by phone if your visit is essential
• If you are poorly with this infection then it typically passes within 48-72 hours and usually can be managed at home by drinking adequate fluids and resting – if you are concerned then call the NHS helpline 111
The hospital is doing all it can to prevent and control the transmission of this virus by using strong disinfectants, increased ward cleans, isolation and hand hygiene promotion. Hand hygiene is one of the most important control measures, hence either in the community or hospital it is essential to wash your hands for example after using the toilet, or before eating – this is important even when people appear healthy.
