This weekend saw Southport Hockey pick up 4 wins out of 5 games.
Ladies 1st XI got us underway, unfortunately only being able to field 10 players the girls put on a valiant display and probably deserved at least a point after going 2-1 down to Lytham St Annes. Hughes with the goal for Southport.
Ladies 2nd XI also started at midday away from home against Lancaster 4s. After losing 10-0 last week with only 8 players. The girls got payback this week with a 3-1 win. Armstrong scored a brace followed by Owen scoring one. The 2nd XI now sit 3rd in the table 1 point behind the leaders.
Mens 2nd XI took to the new pitch at Greenbank for the first time against Lytham St Annes. Four unanswered goals from Booth (3) and Grindrod (1) see the 2nd XI sit 2nd in the table 3 points behind leaders Ormskirk.
Due to a Lancashire Trophy match the Mens 1st XI had two games this weekend. First up on Saturday was Liverpool John Moores University. After a slow start going 1-0 down early on, the Greens started to move the ball around and gaps appeared all over the students side. 3 goals from Jameson, 1 from C. Caton, B. Taylor and J. Caton sealed the 3 points for Southport with a 6-2 victory. Due to other results going in favour of Southport, the 1st XI now sit top of the table on 16 points.
Sunday 28th, less than 24 hours after the league game the 1st XI took to the field against Prescot 1st XI who sit mid table, two leagues above in North West Division 1. After a fiesty 70 minutes of hockey, 9 goals and a handful of green cards the underdogs in Green travelled home with a 5-4 win and booked themselves a place in the semi finals.
