Southport FC’s James Tedford was forced to step in and save a National League North match on Saturday after an injury to the referee.
The popular (poplar?) Secretary and Head of Operations was asked to act as linesman at Telford V Guiseley this afternoon after an injury to referee Liam Marshall.
On Twitter AFC Telford said: “Liam Marshall sadly can’t continue; his position as referee will be taken by Mark Ryder and running the line is James Tedford, club secretary of @southport_fc who is here visiting today. He’s in his Sandgrounders tracksuit too!”
Guiseley AFC tweeted: “We have a new assistant referee on the side The Lions are attacking too! It looks as if @southport_fc‘s James Tedford is now running the line for the second half.”
Referee Liam Marshall was “tackled” just before half time after standing close to a throw in.
Home side AFC Telford went on to win the game 2-0.
