Southport FC are pleased to confirm that we are to enter into a partnership with Elite Sports Academy to provide an under 18’s academy for the forthcoming season. The aim is to develop a strong academic and performance programme for 16-18 year olds wanting to progress further with their footballing careers, whilst maintaining an appropriate level of education. Elite will work alongside Southport to allow the players to achieve full time football, and funding towards a quality education provision
Southport FC Director Ian Kyle stated “This is a fantastic opportunity for Southport to develop an academy side which provides both football and an education, and ultimately hopefully a pathway through to the first team for those who prove good enough. This academy team will play on a wednesday, and therefore can run alongside Darren Wildman’s current Southport under 18’s team that play on a Saturday, thus giving the club access to a large number of potential local players who may hopefully, with the right support, prove good enough to progress further. Jon Mccarthy and I met Paul Brannan, Director of Elite, and were impressed with the plans, set up and commitment of Elite and feel that Elite is the right fit for the Club at this time.”
Elite Sports Academy Head of Education Lee Jones said:
“Elite Sports Academy will deliver a study and education programme that includes a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Physical Activity combined with a range of other level 2 and 3 qualifications. We have a proven track record of developing youth footballers both on and off the field. The education and footballing programme will be delivered by UEFA licensed coaches and fully qualified specialist PE teachers. We are absolutely delighted to be launching our partnership with Southport FC. This is a fantastic opportunity for 16-18 year olds who are local or in the surrounding areas to play and compete for the biggest non league team in the area.
Players will be coached by top class UEFA coaches further developing their talents and giving them realistic pathways into first team football with Southport FC.
We are giving the players the best possible experience with them playing matches at the Merseyrail Community Stadium and competing in National League matches all whilst gaining a Level 3 qualification.”
There will be a drop in facility from 6pm on Tuesday at Merseyrail Community Stadium, Haig Av to give any interested students the opportunity to come and discuss any aspects of the course with representatives from Elite.
