Scams

An 82 year old male living in Sefton received a phone call purporting to be from Amazon about his Prime Payment account. There have been many such calls in the past few months to residents, using various approaches about owing money to this Prime Payment Account all sent by scammers.

Thankfully in this case staff members found him speaking on the phone and using his laptop. They noticed the scammer had accessed his computer and were into his online banking account. They were just in time to prevent 40K being taken from his ISA account.

A Sefton resident received a phone call telling him he had been in contact with someone with the Covid – 19 virus and asked for payment in order to receive a test kit through the post. If money is asked for it is a scam.

News from your Community Policing Team

During one of our patrols of Botanic Gardens and the surrounding area, three 20 year old men were stop searched after making off from officers in the park late on Monday night 10th August. One of the three was found in possession of cannabis, was arrested and has been dealt with by Community Resolution.

Investigations continue into other incidents in the park involving a younger group of boys and girls. The area remains a priority area for us to patrol and a record is being made of the time spent patrolling the area.
