Southport Conservatives have announced their first four candidates for the local elections in May.

Amongst those standing are Cllr Terry Jones (Ainsdale) and Cllr Harry Bliss (Cambridge), two current councillors seeking re-election.

In Ainsdale ward, Councillor Terry Jones who is Leader of the Conservative Group on Sefton Council, will be standing for re-election. Terry has served Ainsdale residents for 12 years and seeks a further term to continue his work in the community with ward colleague and well-known businessman Cllr Tony Brough.

Meols ward Conservatives have selected longstanding resident and NHS worker John Butler. John will bring his wealth of practical and managerial experience to local politics to improve the lives of residents in Meols and the wider Southport area.

In Cambridge, local resident Councillor Harry Bliss has been selected to continue his work supporting local residents, many of whom are neighbours. He seeks to continue his strong Conservative partnership with recently elected Councillor Captain Mike Morris.

The Conservatives have also chosen Adam Kennaugh for Dukes ward. A Senior Orthoptist at a local eye clinic. Adam will be seeking to join Councillor Sir Ron Watson CBE in representing one of Southport’s most iconic wards. He will be looking to support the Damien Moore MPs bid for the Future Highstreets Fund to improve Lord Street, attract more businesses, and increase tourism, whilst working with colleagues to support the bid for disability access at Hillside Station.

Southport Conservatives will be confirming the candidates for Norwood, Kew, and Birkdale in the coming weeks.

Southport Conservatives commented:

‘We believe this is the start of a strong list of candidates capable of continuing to give Southport it’s voice back from Bootle-focused Sefton Council, bringing more investment into the town, and improving services.’

‘Improvements to business, the environment and infrastructure will be well served, and Conservatives will continue to ensure Southport is heard across Sefton through a petition for a town council.

‘Working with the MP, we will also aim to secure funding from the Future High Street Fund, Access to All Programme, and Coastal Communities Fund, to ensure Southport receives the investment it deserves.

‘Leading up to May we believe we have a great opportunity to make progress on last year’s local elections, standing up to a Sefton Council who only see our town as a cashcow.’
