Southport CEX closed after break-in

9th July 2024

Chapel Street’s CEX store is closed today, following an overnight break-in at the premises.

Merseyside Police were in attendance this morning, with shattered glass visible by the store’s exterior.

The external shutter shows damage and appears to have been forced out of place.

No other businesses in the area appear to have been affected. OTS News reporters witnessed community support officers conducting enquiries along Chapel Street.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “ We are investigating following a break-in at an electrical store in Southport in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 9 July.

We were contacted at 3.50am following reports two males had forced entry into the CEX store on Chapel Street and stolen mobile phones and a quantity of electrical equipment.

An investigation is underway and CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out.

Detective Inspector Paul McVeigh said: “We are at the early stages of our enquiries.

“We would appeal for anyone who was in the Chapel Street area of Southport town centre in the early hours of this morning – possibly someone returning home from a night out, driving a taxi or delivering food – who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact us.

“Similarly I would ask anyone locally who gets offered mobile phones or electrical equipment for sale and have any suspicions to get in touch.

“Business burglaries are not victimless crimes and we know it can impact on people’s livelihoods, their income.

“We will continue to work with our local businesses and communities to deter and prevent business burglaries and would welcome any information from the community about this burglary or the sale of stolen goods.”
