Over the bank holiday weekend, The Hollies Rest Home on Mornington Road, Southport held their annual Summer BBQ. This coincided with John Tinniswood’s 107th birthday. Friends and family for both John and the other residents attended the BBQ and Maria Manchester performed live from their very own Bandstand.
John received a card from the Queen commemorating his birthday along with an assortment of well wishes from all who attended. Due to the recent weather it was a lovely surprise to see some sunshine for the occasion.
John was born in 1912, which is the same year that the Titanic sunk. Prior to his retirement in 1972, John worked as an accountant for Shell and BP for 44 years covering Southport to North Wales. John has said that he feels no different than before – which shows true spirit. We believe that John may be of the oldest residents in Southport. “
