Southport car wash raided on suspicion of human trafficking.


Handy Andy car was raided by customs agents on suspicion of committing human trafficking offences.

Agencies including Gangmasters, the Labour Abuse Authority and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs accompanied Merseyside Police officers to carry out the raid at the car wash at Dobbies after being tipped-off that the premises was involved in modern slavery offences.

They were joined by Health and Safety and Operation Sanctuary to round up 12 members of staff working at Dobbies car wash in Southport.

The Handy Andy Car Wash staff were interviewed on the morning of Thursday, 18, MAy and Merseyside Police confirmed the premises was found to be operating illegally in relation to minimum wage offences and also had breached health and safety regulations.
