Southport looks set to be battered by two heavy storms in the next few days, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning.
Warnings have been issued for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for high winds, with Storm Dudley and Storm Eunice set to hit the North West coast.
Two seperate weather warnings are in place for Southport from 3pm on Wednesday to 6pm on Thursday with estimates of winds of 60-70mph, with similar conditions expected on Friday.
But the Met Office has warned that outside the warnings, the area is likely to see heavy rain through the same period and a small possibility of snow.
Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said: “It’s not just going to be strong winds this week,” while warning there could be snow in Northern Enfland, adding snow and ice warnings would likely be issued over the next few days.
“There could be some quite widespread travel disruption in parts of the UK through this week.”
Mr Morgan said: “All parts of the UK will see some very strong winds at times.
“It’s Scotland and the North’s turn on Wednesday and into Thursday, and then it’s probably going to be the southern parts of England and Wales that will see the very strongest winds on Friday.”
“Strong and disruptive” have already caused a significant landslide and flooding in North Wales earlier today.
The Met Office say that the yellow weather warning means:
- There is a small chance that flying debris will result in a danger to life, with fallen trees, damage to buildings and homes, roofs blown off and power lines brought down
- There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
- Where damaging winds occur, there is a chance that long interruptions to power supplies and other services may occur
- There is a small chance that roads, bridges and railway lines could close, with long delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights
