Southport amateur golfer wins Regional Round
Amateur golfer Ken Inglis from Southport is on his way to the UK final of the Audi quattro Cup at Bowood Hotel & Golf Resort, Calne, from 6 to 8 September 2017.
Ken beat off stiff competition to win one of the recent key regional rounds of the Audi quattro Cup at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield. Together with fellow player Paul Compton from Lincoln, Ken swung to victory with a final score of 42 points in an 18-hole tournament, playing under the Stableford format.
The Audi quattro Cup is the largest amateur golf tournament in the world. For the 2017 tournament, more than 2,000 players will tee up in various qualifiers across the UK. Almost 100,000 competitors in 51 other countries will do so worldwide.
At the UK final in September, players will be thoroughly tested by the unforgiving bunkers and undulating greens of the beautiful Bowood course in the rolling Wiltshire countryside. Ken and Paul will be hoping for another victory and the ultimate accolade to take part in the major world final of the Audi quattro Cup.
From 1 to 5 December 2017, the world final will be held at the picturesque Quivira Golf Club in Cabo San Luca, Mexico. Designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, Quivira is a stunning resort course built to take full advantage of its beautiful coastal setting.
The UK hopes to improve on last year’s impressive showing, when teams from South Hereford Audi, Coulsdon Audi and Beckenham Audi finished in the top ten at the Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona, Spain. Eric Kelley and Don Tate from the USA took the title.
