Audi quattro Cup 2017
Ken Inglis, keen golfer from Southport, is teeing up for the UK final of the largest amateur golf tournament in the world: the Audi quattro Cup at the Bowood Hotel & Golf Resort in Calne, Wiltshire, on 7 September 2017.
Representing Lincoln Audi, William secured his place in the prestigious UK final with playing partner, Paul Compton. Together, they swung to success at one of the major regional rounds, which took place at The Belfry, Sutton Coldfield.
The pair now hope to pass the stern test set by Bowood’s unforgiving bunkers and undulating greens to claim another victory. To encourage players and give helpful tips, the final will be also attended by Geoff Swain, world trick shot champion.
Commenting on his proud achievement, Ken says: “I’m looking forward to the UK final – it is truly one of the most prestigious amateur golf accolades. My challenge will be trying to get in sufficient rounds for practice before the big day. But I am confident that I will dovetail with my partner (Paul) for another decent score.”
Ken’s journey to the 2017 Audi quattro Cup UK final marks him out as one of the elite in amateur golf. He started out as one of over 2,000 UK contestants, a number which has been whittled down to 36 finalists. Almost 100,000 competitors in 51 other countries are also hoping to swing their way to the final.
If successful, Ken and Paul will receive the accolade of the UK title and a ticket to the ultimate crowning affair of the Audi quattro Cup. Attended by players from around the globe, this is to be held at the Jack Nicklaus designed Quivira Golf Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on 1 to 5 December 2017.
The UK will look to improve on its impressive 2016 showing in the world final, when teams from South Hereford Audi, Coulsdon Audi and Beckenham Audi all finished in the top ten at the Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona.
