Arrest of beggars and homeless people on Merseyside has fallen by nearly three-quarters, the BBC can reveal.
Figures revealed under the Freedom of Information Act show how arrests fell by 72% from 248 to 68 in three years.
It comes as other data obtained by the BBC suggest arrests under the Vagrancy Act have halved over two years across the country.
Figures from 33 police forces in England and Wales show a sharp fall in arrests between 2016 and 2018.
