Works on a sewer pipe below St Luke’s Road in Southport are creating a huge stink for residents after taking more than 3 months to complete.
It’s understood the works began on a small portion of private land before contractors unearthed a bigger problem with water and sewage pipes below the road.
Residents say they have brought Environmental Health in to deal with the stench but they can’t help until the area is ‘made safe.’
One resident told OTS “There was no proper signage or barriers for the first eight weeks and have only been put in place since i contacted highways.
“United utilities councilors and eviromental health have been informed but say they are waiting contractors to make hole safe.
“All the while raw sewage is pouring into the open hole.
“Workers came back over a fortnight ago and using buckets they emptied the raw sewage onto the road in a pile still visible.
“This is obviously starting to smell and is a health concern.
”This has been ongoing for nearly 3 months now.”
