Botanic Gardens Avairies is historical and is very dear to the community. Local breeders have donated many birds to the avairies for the enjoyment of the public.
However now there is a horrendous rat problem causing injury and distress to the animals this is due to the lack of funding for a much needed refurbishment from Sefton Council. The birds are being moved out for thier safety. The avairies are extremely out dated and have deteriorated over time allowing rats to get into the enclosures.
Sefton council need to step up and provide the required funds of a complete refurbishment and resources for the birds, animals and for the fantastic animal care assistants so they can continue to provide care needed. This can be done by partnering up with trust funds like the national lottery as was done with Kings gardens. This will not do, Southport needs funds aswell as Liverpool.
