Cancellation of Sefton’s Food Waste Collection Service were approved by council.
In recent years, the amount of food waste collected by Sefton’s Food Waste Collection Service has fallen from 5,000 tonnes in 2010 to just 1,300 tonnes collected per annum.
This means that less than 20% of households in the borough take part in the scheme.
It currently costs over three times as much to collect a food caddy as a bin. Unfortunately, this means that the current service costs too much.
Sefton is to undertake a full review of how to ‘best deal with food waste in the future.
The food caddy collection service will be axed.
When guidance by DEFRA is published, the council will undertake a full review of how we best deal with food waste in the future.
