Detectives are appealing for information after a security guard was robbed in Preston. Police were called at shortly after 8am to reports that a security guard delivering cash to the Morrison’s supermarket, Blackpool Road had been threatened and robbed.

It is believed the security guard was approached by one man who stole cash and then drove off in a car with two other men, one of whom appeared to be holding a black hand-gun.

A silver Renault Captur believed to have been used in the robbery was later found abandoned in Ash Grove near to Ribbleton Park and a man-hunt is underway for the offenders.

The man who robbed the guard is described as white, around 5’8” of stocky build or overweight wearing black trousers and a black hooded jacket, hood up and face covered so that only the eyes were visible.

The getaway driver described as a white man in his mid 30s, skinny build with short dark hair and facial stubble. He was wearing round glasses and appeared quite tall in his seat. He had a jacket with a blue stripe across the chest.

There was also a third man in the car.

The thieves escaped with a substantial sum of cash.

Detective Inspector Jon Clegg, of Preston CID, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed what happened to come forward and contact the police.

“We have found what we believe to be a getaway vehicle abandoned and I need to establish how the offenders have then left the area. I would appeal to people in the area to report any suspicious activity to the police as soon as possible.

“Fortunately, the security guard wasn’t hurt during the incident but they have been left shaken in what must have been a frightening ordeal.”
