Seasonal shoppers turned out in force to enjoy a Christmas market with a difference in Southport at the weekend.
The event, at the New Leaf gardening and creative centre on Rotten Row, featured a range of festive goods created by people who use the services of one of the borough’s leading adult social care providers, New Directions.
Organisers say there was a lot of interest in the Christmas items on offer, which included handmade decorations and gifts, as well as handcrafted wooden items including festive signs, magazine racks and birdboxes.
Also very popular were the range of Christmas trees, wreaths and yuletide plants for home and garden created by the green-fingered gardening enthusiasts who attend New Leaf, supported by the project’s hard-working volunteers.
Seasonal shoppers from across Sefton were also able to take a break for refreshments in the market’s pop-up cafe during the event, and enjoy some singalong live music as they made their festive selections.
New Leaf Activity Lead, Angela Green, commented: “Everyone had worked extremely hard to prepare for the Christmas market which is one of the highlights of our year, so we were delighted to see so many people coming through the gates on the day.
“We received a lot of positive feedback, especially about the unique, handcrafted items that are only available here at New Leaf, which is obviously very pleasing for the whole team to hear.”
Angela also pointed out that festive items are still on sale at New Leaf on Rotten Row during normal opening hours which are 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
