| The NHS organisations who shape and buy health services in parts of Cheshire and Merseyside want to hear your thoughts as they review policies to ensure NHS resources are used on the most effective treatments.
In the latest stage of the project, NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in Halton, Liverpool, Southport and Formby, South Sefton, St Helens and Warrington are reviewing a group of policies known as Criteria Based Clinical Treatments (CBCT). These are procedures or treatments that are offered only when a patient meets set clinical criteria. The aim is to keep NHS care up to date with the latest national guidelines, methods and technology, whilst also offering value for money and making the best use of NHS resources. This latest phase of the review sees the public being asked to provide views on six policies: prostate/lower urinary tract surgery, continuous glucose monitoring systems, insulin pumps, cough assist devices, transanal irrigation (for bowel problems), and joint injections administered in hospital. We will also be informing patients about updates to Botulinum Toxin treatment to bring them in line with NICE and guidance from the Pan Mersey Area Prescribing Committee (APC). The information gathered will be used to help develop new or revised polices. No final decisions have been made at this stage and it is important that as many people as possible give their views to help shape local NHS policies for the future. Patients who might not be eligible for treatment will still be able to apply through an individual funding request (IFR) where appropriate. |
