The Salvation Army Last Night of the Proms returns to the town sharing its stage with 12 year old local musician!
The Salvation Army will host its fifth annual ‘Last Night of the Proms’ in the town which will see a 12 year old local musician play the harp.
The charity concert, which takes place at the church and community centre located on Shakespeare Street, will be the fifth year that the international church and charity has hosted the event that will see its brass band play a number of classical arrangements and film themed songs.
12 year old Heather Stark, from Southport, will accompany The Salvation Army band in providing the concert for the local community and is a multi-talented musician in piano, clarinet and violin but will play the harp in a solo performance during the concert on Saturday, October 5.
All proceeds from the evening will go towards The Salvation Army’s ‘Big Collection’ which supports people who are vulnerable or in need.
Captain Michael Hutchings, joint leader of The Salvation Army’s Southport church and community centre said: “This will be the fifth year that we have hosted Last Night of the Proms in our building and each year it has got bigger and better, providing a show stopping concert to be enjoyed by both family and friends!
“This year’s event will see local musician Heather, play the harp and with her ambition to one day become a professional harpist, we’re pleased to be able to allow Heather a platform to realise her dream and perform in front of many in her home town!”
14 year old Josie Lamplough, from Birmingham, will also feature in the concert, providing vocals to a number of classical and show songs.
Captain Michael continued: “Not only does this year’s concert see two brilliant up and coming young talents share our stage but it also allows us to raise funds for our national fundraiser, the Big Collection, enabling us to further support the most vulnerable and marginalised members of the community, and for that we are very grateful.
“Tickets are now on sale and we encourage everyone to come along and enjoy an evening of fun and music!”
As well as classical and theatre themed songs, the audience will also have the opportunity to join in and sing the traditional ‘last night’ song as featured each year at the Royal Albert Hall.
Tickets are available from the reception desk in The Salvation Army located on Shakespeare Street priced at £5.00, which includes light refreshments, or via telephone on 01704 547805 during the centre’s opening hours of 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday. The concert starts at 7:00 pm.
