Rubbish Friends to tackle new art installation under the Pier

Rubbish Friends to tackle new art installation under the Pier.

Following recent press reports Rubbish Friends will be out this Saturday 21st January to tackle the new art installation “aka litter” under the Pier. This is the annual “under the pier” show for an area that is an on-going grot spot. Rubbish Friends were set to clean up the Coast Road and entrance to Ainsdale Beach but given the amount of “art” under the Pier the team of litter heroes have decided to switch venues.

Councillor Sue McGuire explained “This area is difficult to get to and is outside the normal Council cleansing schedule but its very visible to people on the Pier or visiting Ocean Plaza and in its current state doesn’t give a very good impression of Southport.”

Councillor Pat Keith added “We do always try to clean up this area early in the year before the plants start to grow otherwise it becomes quite difficult.  A lot of litter is generated from the skate park and this is something we are trying to address.”

Rubbish Friend Lorraine Cookson added “This is the first Rubbish Friends clean up for 2017 and given the amount of “art” here it really will be a case of the many hands make light work. Anyone who would like to help will be made very welcome.”

Rubbish Friends will be meeting at 10:30am by the entrance to the Miniature Railway.

Equipment and gloves will be provided.
