Southport environmental group ‘Rubbish Friends’ donned flourescent orange and yellow jackets and came out in force for their annual clean-up of the Marine Lake.
A group of volunteers filled a skip with 73 bags of litter along with countless wheelbarrow-loads of rubbish plus half a car bumper and even a bed head!
Lorraine Cookson, a member of the group said: “It was certainly a morning of hard labour.
“When we arrived the lake-side was strewn with dog mess and litter but everyone pulled out all the stops. Less than two hours later it was pristine and a sight to be proud of so you could say it was a labour of love.
“I hope that when people see the difference we’ve
made, they’ll think twice about dropping litter and letting their dogs foul the area.”
