Officers from Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit have arrested a 57-year-old man following a serious road traffic collision in Southport last night (Monday, 24 February).
The incident happened on Cumberland Road, Southport, at about 7.53pm, when a white Ford transit van has collided with a 36-year-old man.
The injured pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance and is being treated for serious injuries, his condition is described as serious but not life threatening.
The driver of the transit van, who comes from Southport, did not stop at the scene and was arrested a short while later on suspicion of causing serious injury through careless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
He has been take to a police station where he will be interviewed by officers.
Officers from the Roads Policing team are carrying out examinations at the scene and anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any dashcam footage which could help with inquiries, is asked to contact the police.
