Employees of the Royal Clifton on the Promenade have told OTS they understand the company will enter administration.
At least one member of staff has been told they no longer have a job.
D’Urberville Hotels purchased the hotel in 2015 for £4m with grand plans to turn the premises into a prestigious seaside venue.
Speaking in 2015, Steve Grant said: “Our plan is to put in significant reinvestment into the hotel’s bedrooms and public areas, and turn this venue into one of the leading hotels in the North West, and the best sea-side hotel resort in the country.”
However the hotel has been available for sale since 2019 for around £6m.
Neither the Royal Clifton nor Best Western were available for comment.
