The 89th Boys Amateur Championship will be played at Royal Birkdale and Southport & Ainsdale from 11-16 August, 2015.

The championship returns to Royal Birkdale for the first time since 1936. Birkdale has hosted The Open nine times, first in 1954 when Peter Thomson won his first of five Opens and most recently in 2008 when Ireland’s Padraig Harrington lifted the Claret Jug for the second year in succession.

The venue has routinely found some of golf’s greatest Champions including Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino, who both won their first Opens at Birkdale, and Tom Watson, who earned his fifth victory on the Southport links in 1983.

The club has also hosted the Amateur Championship, the Ryder Cup, the Walker Cup and the Curtis Cup as well as the Senior Open Championship in 2013 and the Ricoh Women’s British Open in 2014. The Open is set to return to Birkdale in 2017.

Southport & Ainsdale has served as a Final Qualifying venue on several occasions when The Open has been played at Royal Birkdale and Royal Lytham. The James Braid design has been voted among the top 50 golf courses in the UK and has been host to numerous professional and amateur championships including the Ryder Cup in 1933 and 1937.
