Rough sleepers forced to shelter in cage

5th November 2017

Rough sleepers have torn through metal fencing which is supposed to act as deterant on a Victorian shelter on Park Road West.

Rough sleepers who often choose to brave the bad weather rather than ask for help have now gone one step further and transformed a Victorian shelter into a makeshift home.

A used mattress and some broken fencing have been used to form a shelter from the bad weather and to stop Police from getting to them to remove them.

A Park Golf club member told OTS News:

“The Blue Peter style solution isn’t expected to be up for long with golf course wardens planning to remove the mess later this afternoon.”

Help is available to homeless people and others in need.

NB. Nevertheless, how exactly can phone numbers and distant addresses in Bootle help a Southport rough sleeper, or a dispossessed person , with no money or means to telephone for help? Perhaps information dealing with assistance for such people needs posting on billboards etc around the town with a dedicated free phone number. There is however the Samaritans, who offer a free phone help number 116 123.
